What Causes Dizziness And Blurred Vision While On Prednisone?

Hello, thank you very much for taking my question. I have been taking Prednisone for some asthma/lung issues since November 1, 2015. I was put on 40 mg for 2 weeks, then 30 for 2 weeks, then 20 for 2 weeks. Then I was put on 15 indefinitely. It is a very difficult medication for me (and I know for many others) and I was hoping to be off of it by now. But here is my question. I am experiencing dizziness, so much that my balance and coordination are effected. I also noticed that recently my prescription glasses no longer give me the best vision. I just saw my Pulmonologist and failed to ask these questions as we had so many things to discuss and I did not get around to this particular question. However, he did tell me that the amount of Prednisone I am taking does not have that many risk factors. But I am trying to figure out why I have the dizziness. I was on antibiotics 2x since Christmas for either pneumonia or bronchitis. I kept thinking I was getting C Diff because I have had it before. So far, I do have C Diff, I do take a lot of very strong probiotics. I will probably call my PCP tomorrow, but since I found you online thought I would pose this question to you. I guess I wonder if the longer the Prednisone is in my system, is there a higher chance of this dizziness increasing. Thank you again.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have dizziness and blurred vision while on Prednisone . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like abrasions to the cornea , cataracts , migraine headaches , peripheral neuropathy , generalized anxiety disorder , panic attack , transient ischemic attack , diabetes, type 2 , migraine and vitamin B12 deficiency . I would suggest you to to go for your appointment to your doctor . Doctor may order CT scan , check for intraocular pressure , ophthalmoscopy , refraction and blood testing to determine if bacteria is in the blood and treat accordingly like prescribing antibiotics and anti inflammatory . Also consult cardiologist to rule out serious condition like stroke . You should also visit ENT specialist for ear problem .Doctor may order blood tests , CT scan , MRI , carotid ultrasound , cerebral angiogram and echocardiogram . Doctor may also refer you to endocrinologist to rule out diabetic condition .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
