What Causes Dizziness After Starting Amitriptyline?
My Doctor has recently put me on Amitriptyline 50 mg for sleep, I also take .5 mg of valium 3 times a day. Other medications are 20 mg of crestor and 50 mgs of Atenolol once a day. 1 week approx. after starting the Amitriptyline I woke up one morning, yesterday, as I was walking towards the bathroom I started getting dizzy to the point I couldnt keep walking and had to sit. During the day I had about 5 more episodes. Today it happened again while I was driving and almost got into an accident. The only other thing is I have horrible eating habits where I go sometimes 3-4 days without eating as I am on a fixed income. During the night my sleep is not disturbed.
one of the important side effects of amitriptyline is dizziness as you are experiencing....for that patients taking amitriptyline are asked to not drive or do some work where momentary loss of concentration can cause problems...
so this can be a possible cause behind your dizziness... i would ask you to visit your PHYSICIAN for probable decrease in dosage or change of medicine....
hope this was helpful...
regards
