What Causes Dizziness After Inhaling Fumes From Paint?

I was using a spray can paint a shelf and the area was not well ventilated and accidently inhaled the fumes. I was is a 2000 s/f closed space and then opened a door after 10 minutes. about 10 minutes later I started to feel light headed with breathing difficulty. I do not have good sense of smell so I could not tell it was strong. I immediately left the space and went to open fresh air. I did notice after that there is some black inside my nostrils and I did not use a mask as I should have, knowing after the fact. It has been about 1.5 hours after the incident.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

It is probable that there are some irritants in the paint which have caused irritation to your nasal passage and airways and this led to feeling dizzy.

You did the right thing by going in to the open air and allowing yourself to breathe fresh air.

Please wash your face and throat with water and clean up any pain on your hands and face.

There is no need to panic and your health is not in danger from this event.

You can drink a glass of water or juice and relax.

Please avoid entering the area which is painted for few hours or a day. Let there be enough ventilation to allow fumes to decrease in intensity. Please do not worry.
