What Causes Disturbed Sleep After Levofloxacin?

My greetings to you Dr. Matthew Mintz Dr. Matthew Mintz.. My name is Luis Guzman , Yesterday i was diagnosed an resporatory infection and my doctor prescribed me Levofloxacin 500 mg . LAst night had my first dose and honestly i couldn t have a decent sleep..I ask if this was because it is my first time doing this antibiotic or is it gonna keep me up the next following nights today or tomorrow , if so if i take a small piece of alprazolam could this come up with an interaction ? or all of these bad reactions are like i said because of the first day taking this strong antibiotic? Thanks

Hello Luis Guzman.
I am not Dr. Matthew, but still I will try to answer your question.
Your doctor prescribed LEVOFLOXACIN " 500 mg , once in the night ( normal dose is 10 mg / kg body weight ) for respiratory infection .
This is the best drug for respiratory infection .
You didn't get sleep , insomnia ( lack of sleep ) may be due to , either side effect of levofloxacin or due to respiratory distress.
Sometimes first dose produce such effect but later on medicine adjusted in body , so in my opinion take 2nd dose on day 2nd.
As far as alprazolam , this is a sedative drug and also good for insomnia . Alprazolam don't interact with levofloxacin , you can take both drugs simultaneously , need not to worry .
If you feel same problem with 2nd dose then consult your doctor and get his advise regarding another antibiotics.
