What Causes Disorientation While On A Fentanyl Patch?

My mother is on a Fentanyl Patch 12.5 mcg/h. We just increased the usage to changing the patch every 48 hours instead of every 72 hours. She is now experiencing more disorientation (i.e. not recognizing her surroundings). Could this be connected to the increased Fentanyl dose?

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Fentanyl is centrally acting (acts on brain) pain killer.
It can cause mild sedation.
But it can not cause disorientation.
So disorientation in your mother's case is not because of fentanyl.
In my opinion, you should definitely consult neurologist for this.
She may need MRI brain and lumber puncture to find out the cause for disorientation.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your mother. Thanks.
