What Causes Discomfort In The Throat After Swallowing A Chicken Bone?

I was eating chicken and I accidentally swallowed a piece of bone. I went to the hospital but since it was late in the night there was just one emergency doctor who got me x-ray d and then told me to wait overnight and show the x-ray to an ent specialist in the morning. He was unable to trace the bone in my throat. I m unable to sleep coz every time I swallow spit I can feel the bone right there. Is there any way I can sleep tonight and show the ent specialist tomorrow? I m kind of uncomfortable

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It is due to minor abrasion or tears in the throat.

Nothing much to worry and it will settle by itself.

As of now, you can do warm saline gargles for symptomatic relief.

If symptoms persist better to consult an ENT specialist and get evaluated to rule out any retained bits.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
