What Causes Discomfort In Esophagus After Suffering From Heartburn And Chest Pain?

Hi I am suffering from heartburn and chest pain for a while now. The over the counter antacids helped very little. I made some lifestyle changes and they helped in reducing my heartburn and pain. However for a few days I feel as if there is a wound in my esophagus. Especially when I drink water I get the same sensation as if its hitting an open wound. I am so confused as to what it can be.
