What Causes Discomfort At The Base Of The Tongue While Chewing?

My right jaw becomes extreemly tired after a bit of agressive chewing (meat, bread crust etc). The tiredness seems to be at the base of my tongue and in the jaw joint. the discomfort disappears after a few seconds of rest and there are no sensations of pain when I touch or press on the effected area - after the tiredness disappearsMessage From Doctor:

Hi there,

It sounds like you may have temporomandibular joint problem. If you have just started experiencing this problem, you can start with taking some muscle relaxants like Dan-MR or Hifenac-MR two times a day for 5 days. If it would be muscle tiredness due to joint problem, chances are you will find relief from these medicines, heat application to the area, soft diet for some days and muscle excercies.

If pain persists, it could be due to problem of joint that cannot be relieved by medicines and needs to be checked by a dentist.

As far as discomfort in the base of the tongue goes, unless you find a sweeling or lump in the area, it might be just referred pain of joint. In case you feel the lump, it needs to be physically checked by a doctor promptly.

I hope this answer helps you. Wishing you good health ahead. Take care. Thank you.
