What Causes Discoloration Of Lips Along With Swelling In Eyes?

Hi, my daughter n law is complaining of lips turning blue one day and the next day her eye is very swollen and you can see it in her cheek as well. She has no pains and does not feel sick at all. Do you think she should get medical attention now, or wait it out. The swelling has started to go down on its own. Thank you. Vivian

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello Vivian and welcome.

Yes, she will have to attain medical help at the earliest. The lips turning blue is a sign of poor oxygen supply or blood supply, and needs to be investigated at the earliest. I would recommend a visit to a physician with a chest xray, blood coagulation profile, comprehensive blood count, ABG (arterial blood gas), etc. The swelling could also indicate the same. A lack of oxygen or blood supply to the central parts of the body can result in serious long-term damage.

Best wishes.
