What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing?

Good evening,

I have having trouble swallowing for several months. food or fluids seems to get stuck in my throat and spasms start squeezing my throat. I will be unable to get the food to pass and sometimes have to throw it up to dislodge it. It has progressively been getting worse. I have had a sore throat the last couple weeks, but don't feel "sick. yesterday, my lymphs have gotten so enlarged, and so painful, I can't even touch them. it feels like a bruise, Is it time to get this checked out?

Hi Dear ,
Welcome to HCM,

As per your query you have difficulty in swallowing . Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur probably due to throat infection that can be Bacterial or Viral in nature leading to severe Inflammation ,which is causing swallowing difficulty . I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like throat swab culture can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly. Doctor may also order CT scan in case he find it necessary . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics and along with it start taking anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen. Gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine. Keep doing warm saline gargles , suck throat lozenges and chew Vitamin C pellet , drink plenty of warm water or avoid spicy and chilled foods. Eat soft food or liquid diet.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
