What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing Solids Along With Ear Pain?

Hi, I have a feeling of globus for past 2 weeks, I have developed earache the past week and have had ongoing upper back pain between my shoulder blades for quite sometime ( at least 2 years). I seem to be able to swallow to drink liquids but I am becoming increasingly reluctant to swallow solids as I am afraid of them becoming stuck but as yet I have not had the feeling of them being stuck anywhere. I have been monitoring my weight over the past month and it seems to be the same maybe 1kg lighter but that is all. I recently had a full blood count and it showed no abnormalities, liver function also fine and urea and electrolytes also fine. The only abnormality was in my thyroid test, which had a high T4 of 24 but the TSH result was normal at 0.85. Many thanks Gareth

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello Gareth. The symptoms you are describing suggest oesophageal ( food passage ) pathology. You need to undergo an ENT clinical examination ( indirect laryngoscopy ) & flexible oesophagoscopy ( if required ) , to look for the cause. Regards.
