What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing Food?

I have difficulty swallowing at times. It doesn t matter what types of foods and even feel like water gets stuck and won t go down my throat. I already had an upper GI and they found nothing wrong but yet I still am having issues. It almost feels like I have an air bubble coming up from the stomach preventing anything from going down. I am a 61 year old female and in good health.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi!

This is a common finding in many people. You might be feeling like a lump in the throat. And swallowing becomes a difficulty. Mostly it is what we call Globus Hystericus. It is a simple condition with no actual anatomical abnormality as proven by your upper GI endoscopy.

All that you need as treatment is reassurance. It won't affect you in anyway. It's mostly avoided by drinking sips of water. If it doesn't relieve even after a few months you'll need another endoscopy to be sure.
