What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing Food?

I am 84 and have had a barium X-ray of esophagus revealing a need for endoscopy. Trouble swallowing pills sometimes and occasional bites of food too large so get stuck swallowing. I fear the puncture of my esophagus inasmuch as two friends have had disastrous results....feeding tube 40 days, and hospitalized for 3 months. Is there another less invasive way to solve this? I have a diverticula pocket on my esophagus .

Hello,
Thanks for trusting Healthcaremagic!
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.
The diverticular pocket causing the obstruction. It is better to go for surgical correction because these pockets can act as source infection and may lead to pneumonia.
Consult an ENT specialist and get evaluated, you might require surgical removal of the pocket. Now a days endoscopic approach is preferred.
Wishing you good Health.

Dr Shinas
