What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing And Jaw Pain?

Today I was eating at lunch and after I got done swallowing, my jaw almost felt like it locked up and I couldn t open it. It hurts now when I chew, yawn, or talk. There is still a lot of pain and I don t know if I overworked the muscle or what happened but there is a lot of discomfort. I just wanted to see if this was anything I would need to see a doctor about or if it would heal on its own.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

It looks like while eating lunch either you opened your mouth too much or suddenly bite something very hard that has led to displacement in the jaw joint and it has caused damage to the soft cushion present between the jaw joints known as Articular disc..
It is the cause of pain..
For confirmation get an x ray like OPG done so that the jaw joints can be examined..
For now take anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen and along with it take muscle relaxants like Tizanidine or Chlorzoxasone.
Avoid hard foods..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
