What Causes Difficulty In Speech While Recovering From Heart Stroke?

My sister-in-law had a stroke in 2001. She says she has always had tingling, pain and numbness on her left side, but particularly her left hand. Is there therapy or exercises she can do to strengthen her had and arm? Or should I be concerned that there is more going on in her situation. Beside this complaint her only residual symptoms of the stroke is her struggle to find the right words.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear Greetings
Regarding your symptoms of pain tingling sensations numbness on the left hand and difficulty to use words with a history of stroke I am suggesting that what will call peripheral neuropathy and dysathria due to damage of the speech center in the parietal cortex(a portion in the brain)

In view of this please let him see a neurologist specialist for expert clinical assessment and adequate drug prescription

Meanwhile he will need to speech therapist and a physiotherapist for the above symptoms

I hope this helps
