What Causes Difficulty In Passing Stools?

Hi, My stools are no longer round most of the time. Its more on oval shaped. And unlike before, I need to eat otmeal daily or exercise a lot to be able to poop well. No pain nor weight loss. I also noticed when my stools are solid, I can easily poop it out but when its soft or liquid like, its more harder.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Constipation can occur due to several underlying conditions like diabetes, hypothyroidism, low fiber diet, certain medications, obstructive lesions/masses in colon etc. A detailed clinical, laboratory and colonoscopic evaluation is needed to identify the cause. Meanwhile, drink plenty of water, avoid caffeine, stay active and eat fiber-rich diet to relieve constipation. You can also use Miralax as needed.

Regards,

Dr. Lekshmi
