What Causes Difficulty In Breathing?

Hello, Dr. Zia
Some days ago, I came home after my night shift (at about 4 AM PST) and drank a glass of milk before going to sleep right after. While sleeping, I felt that I was having problem in breathing. After sometime, it went worse and my sleep went away. Next day, the same thing happened. After realizing that it was due to that particular brand of milk I consumed, I stopped consuming it, but the breathing problem continued and it only happened while sleeping. We are facing the worst electricity load shedding problem ever here in our country. The notable thing is that the breathing problem goes worse when the room fan is turned off (relatively high room temperature) and I have to use force to inhale the air to bring good amount of O2 in my lungs, otherwise I keep feeling that I am, Kind of, really tired.
Now, I don’t know what has happened, since last day, I am continuously/consistently having that problem even while awake, and right now, at its worst. Please suggest the cause of the problem, precautions and what I need to start taking care about right away. One more thing, I should let you know, that since the last six months, I have had no physical activity on routine, no sports or anything else. Maybe that, as well, is a reason that I am losing my defense against these problems that had never bothered me ever before. Kindly get back to me asap with further information on it.
Thank you.
Regards,
Jawad Waseem

Hello
According to history of illness mentioned in the query is an indication of that you are having Asthma , may be cardiac or bronchial .
It triggered when you consumed milk first time . Due to milk intolerance ( allergy ) you got allergy . This causes bronchoconstriction , this causes breathlessness . When patient is in sleep his body temperature falls somewhat and this was the reason that you developed breathlessness . Mite , dust , pollen , mold , hay , sudden fall & rise of temperature are certain predisposing factors causing asthma.
Diagnosis can be confirmed by pulmonary function tests.
2nd reason of such type of breathlessness may be due to CARDIAC asthma . Diagnosis can be confirmed by E K G and echocardiogram .
3rd reason of such asthma or breathlessness may be due to CONGESTIVE OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE . Diagnosis can be confirmed by physical examination as well pulmonary function tests.
In my opinion deal as mentioned above and first of all consult a primary care physician and get his opinion.
