What Causes Difficulty In Breathing While Laying On The Back?
I have trouble breathing when I lay down on my back. It feels like a weight is on my chest and it s difficult to get a full breath. I am a 20 year old male with no prior breathing conditions. Very healthy and exercise 6 times a week. What kind of problem might I have? Should I see a doctor?
** Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern
1. Since it is difficult to make an online diagnosis and going by your case history it seems to be similar with PND [paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea], thus it will be wise to see a Cardiologist or Medicine specialist who will give special attention to cardiovascular and respiratory system in excluding causes like congestive heart failure, pulmonary edema, hypertensive heart disease [cardiomyopathyhigh blood pressure, valvular disorder], pleural effusion, panic disorder or being overweight.
PS. treatment will depend upon the cause of breathing problem
2. Ask for investigations like chest X-ray, electrocardiogram, pulmonary function test, echocardiogram, and monitoring of blood pressure
