What Causes Difficulty In Blowing The Nose?

Why can my 12 yr old physically not be able to blow her nose. She has never been able to. She can have a cold and blow hard but nothing has ever came out. She has had her Adonis out at 5 yrs old. We were told that some people just don t have the ability to blow their nose. Is that even true?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Difficulty in blowing the nose could be due to mucosal edema of the nasal cavity. To overcome this, she needs to do the following.
1. Take steam inhalation regularly to liquefy mucous and promote its smooth movement.
2. Use nasal decongestant drops containing medication Oxymetazoline regularly.
Gradually, she should be able to overcome the problem.
However, kindly get clinical examination done by ENT specialist to know if there is any hypertrophy of turbinates or deviated nasal septum, which if present, might need surgical correction.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
