What Causes Diarrhea While Suffering From Diverticulitis?

I have been diagnosed with diverticulitis two weeks ago. Since June of this year I have not been well. I had bloodwork done and found out I am bleeding internally. My hemoglobin is currently at 77 and my iron is very low. I have had 2 cat scans, a colonoscopy, upper GI and camera tablet test done - still don t know where I am bleeding from. I now have to go for an endoscope. I took a 10 day course of meds for the diverticulitis however I still am having continuous loose stool and feel uncomfortable all the time. I have been reading on here about others and am worried now that this could be cancer related. The doctor who performed the colonoscopy said cancer is ruled out but that was before the diverticulitis was found. How long is normal to have the symptoms from diverticulitis....should I be returning to the hospital...I am at a loss as to what to do at this point. Any information/help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Treatment of diverticulitis and diverticular disease can include high fiber diet, and anti-spasmodic drugs such Buscopan or Spasmex. Foods to eat that may prevent diverticulitis flares include fruits and vegetables, legumes, and whole grains. People with diverticulitis may avoid eating seeds, nuts, and corn. I also recommend you to use prebiotics to prevent diarrhea.

Hope I have answered the question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
