What Causes Diarrhea And Abdominal Pain After Taking Emergency Contraceptive Pill?

Hi, just over 3 weeks ago I took the emergency contraceptive pill even though I ve been adherent with my combined pill, I had diarrhea and thought I would get the emergency pill incase my usual pill hadn t been absorbed due to my stomach upset. The following week from taking the emergency pill I had my period as expected from taking the combined pill and now 3 weeks on I m getting abdominal pain and 3 days ago I had a decent amount of fresh blood in the toilet bowl after urinating. I m due for a period in 6 days. I was just wondering if my symptoms are a result of the emergency pill? Urinating blood and unexplained abdo pain is a little concerning, I ve heard the emergency contraception can play with hormones like that?

Hello dear
I understand your concern
Your symptoms suggests hormonal imbalance caused by the I pill.
I pill contain high progesterone and it cause relaxation of smooth muscle of the gut and cause diarrhea and the abdominal pain.
Bleeding can be a due to breakthrough bleeding due to high progesterone.
Or it may be your period as I pill cause earlier period and excessive bleeding.
Diarrhea could be a gastroenteritis.
Take following advises:
Drink plenty of water and oral rehydration solution.
Take ciproflaxacin and ornidazole tablet.
Take meftal spas for the pain
Avoid stress and take healthy diet, multivitamin and iron supplements.
