What Causes Development Of Cyst Behind Uterus ?

My sister was told that she has some type of cyst/mass located behind her uterus and outside of her colon. The doctor said he would perform a colonoscopy and while doing so would perforate the colon to biopsy this abnormal tissue. What is the name of such a procedure? It was my understanding that perforating the colon is not appropriate. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Any abnormal appearing mass must be biopsied to diagnose it correctly. I think the radiologist should be able to biopsy it through abdomen without the need for perforating the colon. You can discuss this. This procedure is known as image guided biopsy.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
