What Causes Depression While On Methyldopa Prescribed For Hypertension?

my name is sarah and i am 34 years old. i have been dealing with high blood pressure from hypertension for a few years now. I was given a medication from my dr that did help but it made my depression worse. one of the side effects of the methodopia they gave me is that it makes depression worse. I have been suffering from depression since i was pregnant with my oldest son who is now going to be 14. i wanted a medication that would be safe if i got pregnant so the doctor put me on the methodopa. Now i am not taking it because of the depression and i woke up this morning with my fingers, hands and lower arm numb. both sides were like this but the left was worse. my fingers were locking up and my hands were turning blue.

Hello,

During sleep, you may get pinched nerve may lead to tingling and numbness.

Also other possibilities nerve compression or peripheral neuropathy or carpal tunnel syndrome.

You may use alternate medication for hypertension in case of depression. Few studies have shown that ACE inhibitors are the anti-hypertensive drugs that least likely to cause mood changes.

So if you're not a pregnant woman you can take ACE inhibitors for hypertension.

Do yoga and exercise regularly, you may take anti-depressants under your doctor advice. Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
