Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My sister has some form of dementia/alzheimers and wants to know if there is anyway to find out what area of her brain is affected by the disease? Before we knew she was ill she complained of pain of the left side of her head. At first I thought she had a stroke, but there were no signs when she saw the neurologist. She felt that if she knew which area was affected she might be able to focus on activities that used the healthier part of her brain. Also, she wants publications about the disease so she can know what is happening to her. Most publications seem to deal with the disease from the care-givers view and are pretty dismal. Would it be better to distract her with other publications?
Hello, Thanks for trusting Healthcaremagic! I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns. Alzheimer's is a hereditary disease. it arise due to abnormal protein deposition in the brain. Any part of the brain get affected by this. We can not revert the changes by drugs, but we can arrest the progress of disease b y drugs like galantamine, donepezil etc. Consult a good neurologist and get evaluated. Thanks
