What Causes Delayed Periods And Brown Vaginal Spotting While On Spironolactone?

I started sprioctalone 50mg daily once for cystic acne. I have been using the medicine for a month now with no visible side effects. My period is delayed, still didn t get it. Though I have seen brown spotting. I am really worried is the medicine damaging me somehow ?and why is period delayed?

Hello,

Approximately 80 % of women who use hair loss/acne medication spironolactone will develop irregular periods. If the medication is stopped menstrual cycles return to the original patterns, but this may take a few months.

It's important to speak to your physician about options if you want to regulate your period while on Spironolactone. Many options exist including reducing the dose and taking spironolactone for only a portion of the month. Some women choose to use oral contraceptives to regulate their menstrual cycle while on spironolactone.

So please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
