What Causes Delayed Periods After Unprotected Intercourse?

Hi, I am a 23 year old female. i had my last periods on March 5. My boyfriend and I were going to have sex on March 12. However, we had no condom. But we we even tried to have unprotected sex, but I stopped him in between as we didn t want to take any risk. I haven t got my periods yet as my cycle is of 28 days. Is there anything to be worried about?

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Delay in periods with history of unprotected intercourse could be due to pregnancy.
However, delay in periods can also happen due to other factors like stress or worry.
In any case, take a urine pregnancy test if the periods are delayed by a week. You may need an ultrasound scan for confirmation if the results come positive.
If the result is negative, then kindly relax and wait for periods to happen.
You need to seek medical attention by consulting Gynecologist if the delay is for more than 10 days for further evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
Regards,
