What Causes Delayed Periods After Taking A Contraceptive Pill?

Hi doctor I need your help badly . I had sex during the last days of my period and took a contraceptive pill immediately. After a few days I had massive bleeding for two days and then had normal bleeding for three days just like my usual period days. Now it s been almost forty days that I m not having my period. So does that mean that I m pregnant .

Hello,

The massive bleeding after taking the emergency contraception can be related to the side effects of the pill but because you are having a delayed period it is best to have a pregnancy test done to rule out pregnancy.

If the test comes out negative, you can repeat it in 3-4 days with the first urine in the morning to increase its efficacy and if it is negative again then you are not pregnant and in this case your periods very likely will come in the next couple of weeks. If not you will need to see your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
