General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

If you are not likely pregnant because of the use of contraceptives or you are not sexually active then the abnormal bleeding may be due to:

(1) structural causes such as fibroids or endometriosis

(2) infection

(3) hormonal causes- abnormal levels of hormones can sometimes occur

(4) benign growths such as polyps in the uterus or cervix

If there is a chance of conception there is an unfortunate possibility of a miscarriage. It would be best, since you are feeling dizzy which may indicate excess blood loss, to see your doctor for an assessment.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
