What Causes Delay In Periods?

If the last period I remember was nov 16-28 on / off and i remember getting one in Dec but i dont remember the exact date and i had sex on Jan 5 Jan 8 with my ex & jan 9 - Feb 1 with my bf & I haven't seen my period all Jan but when I went to the hospital Jan 22 2015 they said I wasnt pregnant I'm jus confused & need answer because if I am pregnant I need to know which one to tell

Hi! thanks for sharing your problem with us!

Delay in periods is generally caused due to pregnancy; therefore you must get a urine pregnancy test and if this is negative again, we have to think of following possibilities like:

1. polycystic ovaries

2.functional ovarian cysts

3. endometrial polyps

4. endometrial inactivity/exogenous hormones

5. infections like tuberculosis

6. hormonal problems like thyroid, insulin, prolactin etc.

In this case, your gynecologist might advise to do ultrasound of the lower
abdomen for confirmation and determination of the line of treatment!
