What Causes Delay In Periods Despite Taking IPill After Having Sex?
Hello doctor, My periods is not regular, sometimes i used to get it once in 2 or 3 months, I had sex with my husband, it was not planned so we didnt use protection. it happened 2 days before my periods date and i took IPill within 244 hours and its been 12 days now i didnt get my periods. when we take Ipill, is it possible that bleeding or periods get delayed for weeks? and i feel my stomach is bit bloated and am feeling uncomfortable and tensed so often. is it a sign of pregnancy? should i go for a test? please adivice.

Yes intake of Ipill could cause delay in periods for weeks. Delay in periods is a common side-effect after intake of an emergency contraceptive pill like I-pill. The delayed periods are due to effect of high dose of levonorgestrel hormone in I pill which disrupts your normal menstruation & causes delayed periods. Your periods may be delayed for 1-2 cycles.
As you had taken the emergency contraceptive pill within 24 hours of sexual intercourse, pregnancy possibility should be very less. The abdominal bloating or feeling tensed you are facing should be as a result of stress of getting pregnancy, it is not sign of pregnancy. Also pregnancy possibility is often less on last days of cycle. Altogether pregnancy chances should be negligible in you
An emergency contraceptive should not be used as regular method of contraception. Regular intake of emergency contraceptive pill could cause irregular & delayed periods & other harmful effects including infertility. Next time use regular contraceptive pill or condoms for prevention of unwanted pregnancy.
You are also advised to do a pregnancy test to rule-out even slightest chance of pregnancy.
