What Causes Delay In Menstruation?

I always have normal periods that are on time (I keep track of them) but my period came 4 days late (been heavy first 2 days now extremely light 3rd and 4th day.) before my period came I had been having symptoms of being pregnant (I already have a 2 yr old) and I am still having them. Took a home pregnancy test and was negative.

Upto 7days delay in menstruation may be normal physiological. Stress can delay the expected date of menstruation. Also there is a chance of having hormonal imbalances causing such problems. You have not described about the premenstrual symptoms you are facing. May be there are nausea, bodyache, pain abdomen, mood swings etc. These can be classified as premenstrual syndrome. In that case you may take norethisterone 5mg three times daily for 7days prior your expected date of menstruation if you are not planning for a pregnancy. It also helps you to get your menstruation on date or 2-3 days after stopping the drug. You have to repeat this for consecutive 3-4 cycles to get better outcome.
Though if your problems are getting worse by day you may need to visit a gynecologist.
