What Causes Deformation In The Knee Joints While Suffering From Osteoarthritis?

I may have osteoarthritis in my knee. There is a cracking, grating sound and some pain during my Pilates class, and toward end of a long walk. Also, over the past few years, I notice my leg looks slightly deformed, the knee join bends inward so my legs are no longer evenly aligned. Do you recommend an injection of sunovial fluid or some kind of steroid? Surgery?

Hello,

As you been suffering from OA, since how long you been suffering from OA. Because depending upon the grade of OA one can figure out what are the possible relieving factors for OA.

In most cases when it's a Grade III OA then there will be damage to the internal structures of the knee joint majorly known as the ligaments.

Due to the damage to this, there will be uneven weight shifting over the bone and the muscles will act accordingly.

Since you mentioned your knee is more towards inwards this indicates that there is tightness of the inner thigh muscles.

Also, I think you will have deviation from the normal gait cycle. We need to take an MRI initially to understand the grades of OA and the ligaments injured and also correlate with the clinical symptoms like pain.

Post which it will be possible to provide a solution that either we opt for injection or surgery.

Pilates is a good form of exercises for reducing weight. But for deviations in the joint I think a physiotherapist will be of choice and also for surgery/ steroid opinion you need to discuss with an orthopedic surgeon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
