What Causes Dead-legged Feeling In Athletes?

I am a 56 year old male who began a walking/running program in May. Currently I exercise about 3 times a week walking with some intervals of jogging (about 40%). Total distance is 2+ miles. My problem is a feeling of being dead-legged while running. I had hoped to be past this by now but can t seem to get to the point where my legs have some spring in them. My weight is about 235 pounds, which is about 25 pounds above my goal. Body build is large frame with muscular/thick legs. Overall health is good.

Dead leg feeling can be due to muscle cramp.
Massaging the cramped muscle with your hands or oil
Drinking plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration
Stretching your leg muscles or riding a stationary cycle.
Taking diet rich in calcium and potassium or oral supplements of the same
Check your vit B12 and Vit D 3 levels.

Till time, avoid lifting weights, You can consult physiotherapist for help.
Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give quick relief.
