What Causes Dark Pigment Spot In Eye Of An Elderly Person?
My 100 year old mother had an eye exam today and a dark pigment spot (small) was identified. The optometrist told her it could be cancer/melanoma and she, an RN gaped. Is it possible it s not cancer. She has a follow up appointment with an opthomologist in 2 weeks to take a closer look. At her age could this just be aging arteries in the eyes?
An eye melanoma or tumor is very different from aging arteries in the eye. So, unfortunately, I agree with the doctor diagnosis. Anyway, surgery may be done if there is just eye involvement.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
