What Causes Dark Foul Smelling Discharge And Intense Pelvic Pain Post Hysterectomy?

I am 43 and 3 weeks post op from a laproscopic hysterectomy. I am experiencing dark foul smelling discharge and intense pelvic pain. I have intense pain when I urinate and hot flashes. My ovaries remain intact. My Dr. gave me antibiotics for a bladder infection and said to take Ibuprophen for pain and assured me all my symptoms are normal. The pain is so intense. I feel depressed and hopeless and need some relief. I don t feel like this is normal.

Hello,

Your symptoms could be related to a serious infection in the abdomen, including peritonitis. I recommend consulting as soon as possible with your doctor for a physical exam, an abdominal ultrasound and some tests:
- Complete blood count, PCR, ESR
- Blood bacterial culture
- Urine bacterial culture

An abdominal CT scan may be needed.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
