What Causes Cramps And Painful Muscle Spasms In Hands And Feet?
I am plagued by cramping, painful muscle spasms in my hands and my feet. My fingers and toes will twist themselves into grotesque caricatures of hands and feet. The cramping is random with no obvious cause and it is not bilateral, meaning my left hand or foot will cramp up and not the right and vice versa. It is not a constant condition and I may go for weeks before they cramp up.
Hi! Welcome to HCM! It seems you are suffering from Tetany.
A common cause of tetany is very low levels of calcium in the body. There are many causes of low calcium level and these include hyperventilation ( increased breathing) severe diarrhea and kidney disease. Problems with thyroid or pancreas can create low calcium levels. Alconhol abuse, pregnancy, breastfeeding, malnutrition, vitamin D deficiency, and some medications may also decrease calcium level leading to tetany.
So you are advised to go through the laboratory tests to find out the underlying cause.
Regards!
