What Causes Cramping Behind The Calf Along With Swelling In Knee?

I have a bad knee.....arthritis in both sides and also torn meniscus....excercise has helped it and not bothering me till about 2 weeks ago....started bothering me....and got really bad this weekend. I was alternating heat and ice to bring down the swelling cuz I could tell it was off I began having cramping in the back of my calf.....thought it was because of the knee swelling.....but then Monday I woke up to a rash all over my knee.....knee is hot to the touch and tender almost bruised feeling to the left of the knee cap - any ideas what may be causing all these symptoms?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome.

Firsr of all, you will require arthroscopic intervention to remove the torn part of the meniscus. An MRI of your knee is in order to asses the general health of the knee joint, HLA injections can be provided as cushioning which will help prevent friction at the joint. Please consult an orthopedic surgeon at the earliest.

Best wishes.
