What Causes Cracking Sound In The Knees?

Hi, I have had my knees X-rayed, recently. The nurse called me to say that my X-ray showed that, yes indeed I have OA. But no further assistance was offered. I m doing my own research on the internet. I m a bit traumatised as my knees are morphing into two deformed parts. But no help offered to me. I don t want to have use a walker. I use to ride my bicycle, but I find that my knees swell up now. My knees click out when I walk. The cracking sound it makes as if its bone china. I m 63 years young. What s in the future for me?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
I have studied your case and I think that you are having knee osteoarthritis and because of this deformity, pain and swelling with cracking sound coming of the knee joint. Knee arthritis is common problem in old age and there are lot of people suffering from it.
Now according to stage of the disease we can plan for further management. If it is in very early stage then you can get a steroid injection in the knee joint, avoid squatting and sitting cross leg and you will be fine.
If it is in advance stage then i think you will need knee replacement surgery in which cartilage is replaced my metal.
so according to your stage of the disease further management can be done.

Hi welcome to health care. As you have osteoarthritis knee. You should do quadriceps strengthening exercise, analgesic, crepe bandage support, if you don't have relief you may require knee replacement. Hope your query has been answered . Thanks .
