What Causes Cracking Sound In Jaw While Opening Mouth Leading To Pain?
My husband was chewing last week when he heard a crack in his jaw. He just told me that his bite is now uneven, and when he chews his jaw won't open or shut all the way and it hurts. I'd like to know what kind of doctor he should see, or if a trip to the emergency room is warranted.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that crackling of the jaw along with difficulty in chewing and disturbed opening and closing of the jaw seems to be most probably be due to dislocated jaw caused while chewing and slight dislocation can lead to the following symptoms that you are experiencing..
You should consult an Oral Physician or an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and he can advise a full mouth x ray also known as Orthopantomogram to confirm the cause and treatment can be done accordingly..
In case of dislocation manual reduction can be done and along with it you can be advised a course of anti inflammatory painkiller and muscle relaxants.. Take a soft diet.. Avoid excess mouth opening..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
