What Causes Cracking Sound Along With Severe Pain On The Back Of Knee?

While doing exercises using a chair for my strengthening my hamstring, I encountered a pop directly behind m knee cap followed by some hot sensation. there is pain between both major tendons, almost like a stinging sensation, and prevents me from stretching and going up stairs normally. What could this be? A hamstring pull?

Could be damage to the ligaments holding tibia and febula bones.together. best would be to do an mri if pain still does not respond.to tylenol.
