What Causes Coughing Up On Saliva?

Choking on saliva. I have done this multiple times but this last episode really scared me. Usually I can calm myself and get over it. Yesterday I thought I had worked my way through it and I started choking even more. I started feeling little faint. Later they told me I started turning blue in my face. This one really scared me.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is understandable to be concerned. You may need to consider seeing your doctor for an assessment.

Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) is one of the main causes but there are others eg issues with the muscles in the area. Your doctor may refer you to a gastroenterologist for assessment which may include imaging.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
