Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother is 89 years old. She has been coughing mucus after eating. It is clear in color. She doesn t want to eat because it is embarrassing. She goes thru 10-15 paper towels trying to pull stringy mucus out of her mouth and throat. She has a history of a small esophagus which has been stretched in the past. She refuses to get another barium swallow test. She smoked for over 60 years and recently stopped. What could be causing the mucus.
In this background, the first thing we have to do is to rule out of re-stenosis or recurrent narrowing of esophagus. Kindly discuss with your doctor. Till then, try giving semi-solid items that can be tolerated a little better.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
