What Causes Coughing Up Of Green Phlegm?

72, white female. Drinks wine with dinner. Occasionally in the morning I feel a need to cough and clear my chest and sometimes I bring up mucus which could be clear or, green. During the past two months I sometimes see dark brownish spots in the mucus. Healthy, not on any prescription medications but take two to five Aleve A MONTH for arthritis. Breast cancer 22 years ago, bi lateral mastectomy, no chemo or radiation. Should I be concerned? Recently saw my doctor. Lungs and heart sounded good. Thanks!

Hi welcome to health care magic...

You have mentioned your heart and lung sounds good, so you consulted to which doctor and which investigation done that I want to know....

Here phlegm and brown coloured spot needs work up with....
-Auscultation
-CBC
-Chest x ray
-Spirometry if needed

These will help in rule out bronchitis if present... X ray might also show if any metastatic growth present...
If present further work up needed for that..

If no significant lesion found than no need for worry...

So as per my opinion better to consult pulmonologist and get your examination done for further work up..
