What Causes Coughing Up Of Blood With Black Mass In The Lungs?

My boyfriends mom is coughing up blood..she has been on antibiotics for a while and nothing helps..shes not a smoker but her husband used to smoke in the house years ago..she went to the hospital and they found a black mass in her lungs the MD said it could be a tumor..is that really bad? Shes going for a biopsy soon?

I can understand your concern.
She is having hemoptysis (blood in sputum).
Common causes for hemoptysis are
1. Lung infection (pneumonia)
2. Tuberculosis
3. Lung cancer
Since she is not improving with antibiotics, pneumonia is unlikely and she is also having mass like lesion on chest x ray, so possibility of tuberculosis or lung cancer is more.
To confirmation this, Biopsy from the mass is needed.
If it is cancer then it is bad for her.
But if it is tuberculosis then with anti tubercular drugs, she can be cured.
So get done ecg Biopsy and start appropriate treatment.
