Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Coughing up of blood, 'hemoptysis' can be a sign of serious medical condition (lung cancer, lung infection [infarction or embolism), bronchitis, pneumonia, bronchiectasis) and generally requires medical evaluation (chest x-ray, bronchoscopy, CBC, CT scan) to determine the site of the bleeding so visit to an emergency room (ER) is necessary.

Treatment will depend upon the underlying cause and initially use of antibiotics and steroids are sufficient but if blood in mucus lasts longer than week associated with chest pain, weight loss, shortness of breath. Call your doctor to exclude sign of any serious medical condition.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Munish Sood
