What Causes Coughing Up Blood?

my mom has COPD and this morning she coughed up some blood ... not a lot but u could see it in the other stuff she usually coughs up!! she did this several times but she has a sore throat and thinks it s from that?? and it s getting lighter with each time... do u think it s her throat or more serious??

Thanks for your question on HCM.
Your mother is having COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) and hemoptysis (coughing out blood).
The most common cause for hemoptysis is COPD itself.
But can be seen due to
1. Infection like tuberculosis or pneumonia
2. Malignancy.
So it is always better to get done
1. Chest x ray
2. CT thorax
CT thorax gives much better idea about infection and malignancy.
So consult pulmonologist and discuss all these.
