What Causes Cough And Dry Mouth After Taking Pristiq?
I have been taking Pristiq (antidepressant) for about two years and find I am so dry-mouthed and coughing. I read this may be a symptom of Pristiq. The dryness is excessive and I think I should change RX. I am not under treatment at this time. Also, just had thyroid surgery to remove half my thyroid, began Synthroid during the past three months. Is this a contributing factor?
Pristiq is desvenlafaxine and the drug belongs to SNRI group of antidepressant drugs. You have symptoms like dry mouth and cough. Desvenlafaxine at high doses can cause such side effects like dry mouth, sedation, giddiness etc. You are also taking synthyroid, but as per my opinion it is not a contributing factor for such symptoms. As your mouth dryness is excessive and causing impairment so you should visit your psychiatrist for reevaluation and any dose adjustments. To prevent recurrent dryness of mouth you can take sugar free lozenges. This will help in keeping your mouth moist.
Thank, hope this helps you.
