What Causes Cough And Chest Pain After Rib Injury?

About ten years back I cracked my ribs and punctured my lung in a car accident. Recently I have a lot of pain plus pressure on that side and a very dry hard cough at times. Is this something I should be concerned with or just the effects of scar tissue and getting older?

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
No need to worry much, possibility of pain due to scar tissue is more.
But better to rule out internal lung pathology first.
So get done chest x ray and ultrasound examination of chest to to rule out this.
If both these are normal then no need to worry for internal lung pathology.
Ultrasound will also diagnose pleural thickening (scar).
So get done ultrasound examination. Application of warm water pad on affected areas is helpful in your case.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
