What Causes Constant Taste Of Cigarette In The Mouth During Pregnancy?
I m a smoker. I smoked a pack a day and then I found out I was 5 weeks pregnant. I ve cut down a lot and probably have only smoked 4 in the last couple of days. Today I haven t had one but I noticed I m tasting cigarettes all day long and it s making me sick. A that just from being pregnant or should I go see a doctor?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of constant taste of cigarette in the mouth during pregnancy which seems to be due to hallucination of olfactory senses leading to Phantosmia. Need not to worry.
I would suggest you to maintain proper oral hygiene and quit smoking as it is harmful for foetus as well as it can leads to developmental malformations. Do warm salt water gargles 2-3 times a day. Consult ENT specialist for proper examination and rule out causes like gingivitis and sinus infection. Doctor may order X-ray , blood test or CT scan to confirm the diagnosis.
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
