What Causes Constant Numbness In The Hands?

Hi, maybe you can tell me an idea of what is going on. Both of my hands get total numb at night no matter how I position my hands, also feel pins and needles, takes a while for my hand to get back to normal. Having difficulty graving things, loss strength, having pain in my fingers, palm, and sometimes feel some electric shocks in my arms during the day. Rosanna

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You might be having compression of brachial plexus bilaterally which can be due to extra cervical rib or you might be having syringomyelia. Proper evaluation should be done with neurophysician's opinion.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani
